NEEDS LIST
People have asked us often what are our needs.  Below is part of the list.
If any of you feels led by God to assist us, please do so by sending any
amount to the Southwest Church of Christ at the address on the Contacts
Page.

We have already gotten a lot of help and we are very appreciative of that.
However as you know, things wear out, especially with 60+ kids helping us
to wear them out.  We do try very hard to ensure that the kids respect the
property and do not break things.  But also with us being so close to the
ocean, we do have rust issues which makes the problems worse.

If you need more details or have questions, please contact myself (bob),
Dianna, or Jack Frye at the Southwest Church of Christ in Ada.  All
addresses are on the Contacts Page.  Again, thanks for all the wonderful
support you have already given us.  We have not forgotten it and are very
grateful.  Remember too this isn't for us, it really is for God's kids.

CAPITAL NEEDS

  • We have been blessed!  With just a few exceptions, all of our capital
needs have been met!!  Thanks to God for faithful Christians like
those from the Westlink Church of Christ in Wichita, KS who donated
sufficient funds to help meet those capital needs!

  • One thing left is to add a second story and a cement roof to the
transition house.  The estimate is still $9,000.  Update 2/2/10:  We
believe that working with the Otisville Church of Christ in Otisville,
MI, we have this problem solved.  They were here this past
Christmas and are just such a great bunch of brothers and sisters!

  • The only other capital item we would like are some improvements to
    the orphanage school as follows:

  • Painting the school inside and out.  Estimate $400 for labor and
    materials
  • Repair to the school kitchen.  Estimate $200 for labor and
    materials.
  • Install a well for the school for drinkable water.  Estimate $1600
for labor and materials.  Update 2/2/10:  It appears as we have
someone who is going to step up and provide this for
Ludovic's Christian school.  Thanks to God very much for
    providing it.
  • Repair on 4 classroom doors.  Estimate $320 for labor and
    materials.

  • OK OK OK just one more thing (this time I mean it).  It's also not for
the orphanage but it truly is a capital need.  Our church building is
just getting too small.  We need a second floor balcony because
there is just no other place to build up.  Our estimate right to add the
2nd floor balcony is $17,500.  Right now, we have $7,130 so we need
just a bit over $10,000.  Anything would help us right now as we save
up to get the building expansion.  Pics to your left of how the church
    looks today.

ANNUAL NEEDS

  • "101 Favorite Creole Bible Stories", by Ura Miller.  These have a very
good binding and great illustrations.  We have 30 on hand for Sunday
morning Bible School but I would really like to get them into the
hands of our 3rd - 6th grade kids so they can read them on their
own.  There is just not a lot of material in Creole, so when you find
something like this it truly is a blessing.  Here is the only place I
could find to get them.  Estimate $17 with tax and shipping to us here
in Haiti.  These would make great gifts for the kids from 3rd to 8th
    grade!

  • Update 9/5/09:  We have received 25 more of these Bible story
books courtesy of a church in Tennessee.  We are very grateful
to them. We now have enough for both the church and the
evening devotionals.   We really don't need more unless you
wanted to buy one for an individual older kid who can keep it
and read it on his or her own.

  • Hippocrene English Creole Dictionaries for our kids.  You can buy
them at Amazon or anyplace.  I choose the B&N website because they
have a picture of the book and Amazon didn't.  These are really good
and our 6th grade and older kids really should have them.  Note:
These are just for the kids and are not recommended for Americans
wanting to learn Creole.  Contact Bob if you are interested in
purchasing low cost but effective Creole language
instructions/dictionaries for yourself.   With shipping, they are
probably close to $20 and the prices can change.  They would make
another excellent gift for one of the older kids!

  • Update 3/28/09:  We have received funds to purchase 15 of
these for our 6th and 7th grade kids.  However, they would still
be good to get for some of the older kids in 8th through 11th
grades.  Again, e me if you think you might want to give one as
    a gift.

  • Clothes, sheets, shoes, and towels are always needed.  Those with
large families know how much they go through these things.  But our
family is 64 kids large!  It's always better to send money to purchase
them here locally.  It helps the economy a bit and saves money on
shipping and customs.  Any amount, from $20 to $100 or more can
    always help!

  • Updated 10/3/09:  We need mattresses too.  We can buy used ones
for about $65US here, less expensive for the small ones that fit in a
crib.  With the high humidity here and the dust and the dirt, we go
through them very fast.  Any help with these would be appreciated.

  • School supplies.  With clothes, it's better to send money, but on
school supplies, it's best to send the supplies themselves.  The
quality in Canada and the US is so much better than what we can buy
here.  We need pens (red, black, blue), pencils, pencil sharpeners,
notebooks, and compasses and protractors for geometry.  E me to let
me know they're coming please.  Updated 3/1/10:  This is an acute
need now with school restarting very soon after an almost 2 month
delay from the earthquake.  Pens and pencil sharpeners are still very
    much needed.

  • Games and puzzles:  They love checkers but always lose the pieces.
We have checkerboards that we keep indoors but we would love for
someone to send 1 or 2 inexpensive plastic checker sets.  Also
jigsaw puzzles for smaller kids.  The difficult ones of 100 or more
pieces aren't too popular, but the smaller ones with big pieces are
    very well received.

  • OK, this is going to sound silly but...when they ask paper or plastic...
say PLASTIC.  Never send them by themselves but when you send
other stuff, use them as packing material.  We use the bags to
    distribute rice and beans.  Seriously!

  • Computer room supplies (mainly printer ink, but paper and the
occasional damaged flash drive too).  $300.

  • Bob’s Personal Support, updated 9/5/09:

  • I'm very happy and blessed to say that my needs have been
met.  I am fine and don't need any more support.  Because of
who He is, God has been good to me.

  • But we still have outside kids that need help.  We are not alone
here in isolation, but part of the community in Petite Anse.  I
have mentioned in the slide show introducing some of the kids
needing sponsors (here) that I have developed relationships
with some of the school and neighborhood kids.  I guess that is
around 20 - 25, depending on how you count them.  Some of my
personal support goes to help these kids until sponsors can be
found for them.  God has either led them to me or me to them.
Probably both.  If you can, please consider helping me help
    them.

  • Supplies for Bob’s youth group classes. Scissors, markers, chalk,
crayons, construction paper, glue, staplers, staples, etc.
    Approximately $300 a year.
